More than a lakh people live around the fringes of Bangladesh Sundarban, out of which a sizeable number enter Sundarban forest from October to February driven by their livelihood need. During the long stretch they use to stay within Sundarban, many often fall sick from animal attacks, drinking contaminated water and various other reasons. This has led to a demand for a floating hospital in the area. According to sources, forest department sent a proposal for such a hospital in 2010; but that is yet to be cleared by the appropriate department.
